Officer-involved shooting on Seattle's Capitol Hill

Seattle police officers were involved in a shooting Tuesday night in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. No officers were injured.

Seattle police officers were involved in a shooting on Capitol Hill Tuesday night.

The incident began around 9:20 p.m. when police received a report of a man in distress armed with a handgun in the 1600 block of Melrose Avenue.

When officers arrived, they located a man with a handgun in the street and gave him verbal commands to put the gun down, according to Deputy Chief Marc Garth Green with the Seattle Police Department. The man fired at least one shot at police and officers returned fire, striking the man.

Deputy Garth Green said officers took the man into custody and immediately began giving him first aid and called the Seattle Fire Department. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

No officers or bystanders were injured, Deputy Garth Green said.
