Ellie the cat continues recovery from burns suffered in Bellevue fire

Ellie the cat, seriously injured when fire destroyed her Bellevue home, is on the last stretch of her recovery, her "mom" Cassie reports.

Ellie the cat, seriously injured when fire destroyed her Bellevue home, is on the last stretch of her recovery, her mom Cassie Howard reports.

On Nov. 5, Cassie s apartment was one of 10 destroyed in a huge fire at the Hampton Greens. After the flames were put out, firefighters found Ellie huddled under a bed. She suffered burns and had respiratory issues.

More than a month later, Cassie says four out of the five major burns Ellie suffered are now closed and healed up.

She is still receiving treatment on the major burn on her front left leg, which they had to remove muscle tissue from since it died from being so badly burnt, she said.

Cassie says before the fire, Ellie spent a lot of the day sitting on the window sill, people and bird watching.

Since the fire she sadly has not been able to get up to the window sill, until Friday when the ramp I ordered her came, she said.

Ellie is now able to walk up to the window (she is under a strict no jumping rule until fully healed) and sit on her new memory foam window perch.

She actually didn't even sleep with me last night, Cassie said Sunday. Instead, she slept on her perch and was up a lot of the night looking out the window. Life is slowly returning to a new normal.

Cassie lost everything in the fire, but was so happy that little Ellie survived. The two are now in a new apartment and doing well.

Things are getting better for us; people have been very generous and kind, she said.

Donations poured in to help with the vet bills, but Cassie says they are still about $2,000 shy of the $15,000 goal. If you would like to help, visit youcaring.com
