A 15-year-old girl got the chance to spend the day with her favorite author.

Best-selling author and Tacoma resident Marissa Meyer gave Riley feedback on her writing and tips on becoming a professional author.

Marissa wrote the “The Lunar Chronicles” series of books, “Heartless,” “Renegades” and a number of other titles for young adults.

Riley is in Treehouse’s Graduation Success program, which aims to increase graduation rates for youth.

Like a lot of children in foster care, Riley found herself struggling academically. However, the deal was if Riley improved in school, she would get to meet Marissa. And guess what – Riley did.

Marissa is also a former foster Mom who eventually adopted twin sisters from care.
