10-year-old boy found safe after Tacoma Amber Alert

A 10-year-old boy was found safe following Monday's Amber Alert. Police now believe the man seen duct-taping the child was the boy's grandfather.
An Amber Alert for a 10-year-old boy was issued Monday.

A 10-year-old boy was found safe Monday following an Amber Alert in Tacoma. The child was located in Kitsap County.

Witnesses told police a man in his 50s duct-taped a child and drove off with the boy near DeLong Elementary school. The incident was first reported around 4 p.m. Monday.

The Washington State Patrol emailed an Amber Alert notification just after 6:30 p.m. based on credible witness reports and footage shared with police. WSP says the alert was not issued to smart phones or freeway readerboards because two critical pieces of information were missing. There was no victim description or confirmed information on a suspect vehicle.

The alert was canceled about an hour later when the boy was found safe in Kitsap County. Tacoma Police spokesperson Loretta Cool believes the man in question is the boy's grandfather and was reacting to the boy's behavior issues. It's unclear if he will face any charges.
