Tacoma Dome shutting down for $30 million renovation

A few more concerts close out the spring calendar at the Tacoma Dome before a big renovation project closes it down for the summer.
The Tacoma Dome is set to undergo a $30 million renovation this summer.

A usually loud and raucous Tacoma Dome will host a different set of sounds this summer. Instead of concert vocals, the venue will be home to several months of construction.

The popular music venue - that's hosted talent from Lady Gaga to Bon Jovi - is shutting down to undergo a $30 million renovation. The construction is expected to finish by the fall, according to the Tacoma Dome's website.

Justin Timberlake is set to perform back-to-back shows at the Tacoma Dome in early November.

Key improvements to the venue include:

  • State of the art telescopic seating, eliminating the portable seating in exterior parking lots
  • Upgrading and adding additional restrooms
  • Modifying loading docks
  • Renovations to backstage offices and dressing rooms

Overall, the renovations to the Tacoma Dome are expected to "increase the number of events and overall attendance" once the arena reopens.

Improvements begin in June, according to the Seattle Times.

Shania Twain, Chris Young and Maroon 5 are scheduled to perform in throughout May before the summer shutdown.
