North Cascades to see heavy snow Friday

Lowland rain and mountain snow return to Western Washington to end the week.

The mountains are expected to get hit with snow Friday with up to 10 inches of accumulation possible above 3,500 feet.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Friday at 6 p.m. for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Snow levels will drop to about 3,000 feet Friday morning and stay around 3,500 feet through the day, according to KING 5 Meteorologist Craig Herrera.

Drivers should expect snow-covered roads, limited visibility, and slippery conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Storm Warning was in effect for the north Cascades, but that has been canceled.

An Avalanche Warning is in effect for the north Cascades until 6 p.m. Friday with high avalanche danger, according to the Northwest Avalanche Center. The central Cascases have considerable danger. Backcountry travel is not advised.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect along the coast Friday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. with a west swell of 20 to 22 feet.

A Flood Watch for Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, along with counties on the Olympic Peninsula is in effect until Saturday morning.

Western Washington will see scattered spotty showers on Friday with off-and-on showers this weekend.
