On Saturday, Byrnie Utz Hats store in downtown Seattle closed the doors to its Union Street location for the last time.

The store has occupied the space since 1934. Current owner Paul Ferry says the building’s new owner will not renew the lease. Now he’s forced to find a new location.

His daughter, Stacy Oaks, who also works at the store, say they are currently looking for a buyer to take over the business from her father, who is also retiring. That way, Byrnie Utz will be able to continue on in a new location.

Although there is hope the business will start up again in a new location, losing its home for the past eight decades is hard.

“For some people, losing this place and being able to come into somewhere familiar in Seattle is really sad,” said Oaks.
