Seattle renters spend almost as much on child care as housing

The average rent payment in Seattle is about $550 more a month than the cost of child care.

Seattle is an expensive place to live, and child care is getting just as bad.

The average cost of child care in Seattle is $1,680 per month, while the median rent payment is $2,230, about $550 more.

But Seattle isn’t alone. A new analysis from HotPad, a Zillow Group brand, showed renters with children across the country almost spent as much on child care as they did on housing.

The average rent payment is around $1,500 per month nationally, which is about $115 more than the monthly average cost of childcare, according to the analysis.
