Seattle police are trying to reunite a war hero with his World War II medals.

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Police Department is asking for the public's help in returning a collection of World War II medals to the man they belong to.

The medals were found in evidence during a recent inventory.

Seattle police have little information on the war hero. Detectives believed served in the XII Corp in Europe, received two bronze stars, and likely retired a colonel. One of the bronze stars is for valor in combat.

So far, their investigation has not uncovered the man's identity.

"Based on the medals and uniform insignia, we know his rank but not his name," said SPD Evidence Unit detective Michael Whidbey.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Whidbey at michael.whidbey@seattle.gov or (206) 233-3890.
