Suspect in custody after gunfire prompted Capitol Hill street shutdown

Seattle Police say SWAT have taken a suspect into custody after an hours-long closure on East John Street.

SEATTLE — Seattle Police say a suspect now is in custody Saturday after a stretch of East John Street in Capitol Hill was closed for hours following reports of gunfire from a balcony.

A large police presence had amassed after reports of gunfire from a balcony near the 1000 block of East John Street in Capitol Hill earlier Saturday evening.

Per an SPD press release on Monday, the suspect was in crisis and after negotiations with law enforcement, agreed to exit his apartment and was arrested by SWAT.

No injuries happened over the course of the incident, and the suspect was booked for Malicious Mischief. SPD also shared photos of the two handguns that were retrieved from the scene.
