Seattle skyline glowing orange this week for National Cancer Research Month

As a part of the Fred Hutch "Glow Orange to Cure Cancer" campaign in May, local businesses will light up their buildings in an orange glow.

The Seattle skyline will glow orange this week for National Cancer Research month. The Fred Hutch “Glow Orange to Cure Cancer” campaign runs May 7 – 13, 2018.

The 520 Bridge, Columbia Tower, Union Square, Westin Seattle, W Seattle, IBM Building, PEMCO, Allen Institute, and Argosy Cruises include those who will light up in orange. The Seattle Great Wheel will also display an orange light show the evenings of May 7 and 11.

The campaign is a part of “Obliteride,” an annual bike ride raising more than $12 million since 2013 for Fred Hutch cancer research. Thousands are expected during this year’s ride on August 11.

"We greatly appreciate our local business community embracing this awareness campaign and the innovative work we're doing at Fred Hutch," said Andrea Gomes Morrison, director of Fred Hutch Obliteride. "This year we're making it easier for everyone to join Obliteride. We've added a new 5k walk so everyone can come join the fun and support cancer research!"

Since its founding in 1975, the Fred Hutch research center is one of the world’s leading research organizations on cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases.
