When Ann Peavey's beloved dog Bartlett died, she couldn't bring herself to go on a hike. There were too many memories of their time on trails together.
About a month after her 9-year-old dane passed away from a heart condition, the Issaquah woman decided she was ready to hit the trails again. This time, with a fresh idea: What if she found a new canine hiking companion? A dog share.
Though Peavey thought it might be a wild idea, she followed through anyway and posted on her neighborhood Next Door app.
The post read in part, "Anyone have an extra dog who loves trails, but you just don't have time to take him/her out? No fee, I'd be getting as much enjoyment as he/she would."
To Peavey's amazement, it worked. Not only did she find Kodi, but they instantly bonded.
"I was bawling. The minute I walked in the door, he was in my lap. I could tell in a second he was the one. Like a matchmaker," Ann said.
