Burn bans are in effect across Western and Central Washington.

It’s that time of the year again. Burn bans are in effect in several counties across central and Western Washington. Burn bans will last until October 1, 2018, unless officials decide to lift the restrictions sooner.

The Department of Natural Resources announced a ban on all outdoor burning in forests and state parks under DNR fire protection effective August 2. Prescribed burns, burn piles, and the use of charcoal briquettes are included in the ban.

The following list shows counties that have a burn ban in effect. If your county is NOT on the list, there was no burn ban in effect when this story was published.

Please check with local authorities before lighting any fire.

Chelan County

- No open burning.

Clallam County

- Exception for recreational fires, unless further banned by extreme weather conditions.

Clark County

- All burning permits have been canceled. Recreational fires are also banned.

Cowlitz County

- Exception for recreational campfires if built in improved fire pits.

Grant County

- Burn ban in effect.

Grays Harbor County

- Restrictions on outdoor burning include campfires on private land

- Recreational campfires are permitted only within approved campgrounds in improved fire pits.

Island County

- No outdoor burning of natural debris, even with a permit.

- Exception for recreational fire in an approved fire pit.

Jefferson County

- Exception for recreational or ceremonial campfires in burn pits and charcoal barbecues.

King County

- Exception for recreational fires in metal or concrete pits.

Kitsap County

- Stage two burn ban in effect. No outdoor fires of any kind are allowed, including recreational fires, backyard fire kettles, chimneys, or fire pits.

Kittitas County

- A fire safety burn ban is in effect.

Lewis County

- Fire safety burn ban is in effect. All burning is banned.

Mason County

- All outdoor burning is prohibited

Pacific County

- Exception for recreational fires if built in improved fire pits in designated campgrounds.

Okanogan County

- Exception for recreational fires.

Pacific County

- Exception for recreational campfires if built in improved fire pits in designated areas.

Pierce County

- Exception for small recreational fires in established fire pits.

San Juan County

- All residential burning closed for the season, exception for campfires in a contained fire pit no larger than 2' by 2' in size.

Skagit County

- Modified burn ban is in effect until further notice.

- Exception for recreational and cooking fires in approved enclosures.

Skamania County

- Fire safety burn ban in effect. All open burning prohibited including recreation and campfires.

Snohomish County

- Exception for recreational fires.

- All combustible materials within a 10-foot radius must be cleared.

Thurston County

- Exception for recreational fires in approved fire pits.

Wahkiakum County

- Exception for recreational fires.

Whatcom County

- Exception for recreational fires.

Yakima County

- Stage 1 burn ban in effect.
