MERCER ISLAND, Wash. -- Adam Tucker did something his teacher has never seen before in her 20+ career at Mercer Island High School.

Tucker, a senior, got every single question correct on last spring's AP Calculus and AP microeconomics exams.

"I was pretty astounded," said Tucker, who wants to study chemistry next year when he heads off to college. "I was also pretty thrilled."

Hundreds of thousands of students take the AP exams each year. Typically fewer than 10 students worldwide earn perfect scores by answering every single question correctly.

"He's very humble," said Kim Schjelderup, Tucker's teacher for both subjects. "He's the kid you want in your class because he just wants to learn."

Math wasn't always so easy for Tucker.

In elementary school, he admits he struggled with the subject.

Tucker credits teachers like Ms. Schjelderup for inspiring him.

He won't say where he wants to attend college, but he is interested in a career in scientific research.
