SEATTLE - A man fired shots at two people sitting on a bench at the Rainier Beach light rail station about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

There were no injuries, but gang unit detectives are investigating the incident to determine if the two people on the bench were the intended targets. Police have not spoken with the individuals, as they fled the scene afterwards and have yet to make a police report.

Witnesses described the shooter as a black male in his 20s to 30s, wearing a black hat, black jacket, and dark pants. Police officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

A light rail train at the Rainier Beach Station, which is located at Martin Luther King Jr. Way S and S Henderson St. in Seattle's Rainier Valley neighborhood, was struck by the bullets. Service was temporarily suspended between Othello Station and Tukwila Station, but trains are now operating normally.

Seattle Public Schools has lifted a shelter in-place at Dunlap Elementary, South Shore Pre-K-8, South Lake High, and Rainier Beach High.

If anyone has additional information about the incident, they are urged to contact Seattle police at 206-625-5011.
