Armed Forces Day celebrations kick off at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Heritage Hill Park on Saturday.

This is the first time the celebrations have been held at the park since becoming a joint base Oct. 1, 2010. It seeks to celebrate America’s history, military heritage, and serving the community.

The event begins with a volksmarch, a community-led walking tour, and a bicycle ride at 10 a.m. Those who want to participate can register for the march or the bicycle ride at 9 a.m. on 5th Street adjacent to the airpark.

More activities include military displays, historical reenactments, displays of Air Force and Army military aircraft, vehicles and equipment, live music, carnival rides, a climbing wall, and craft and food vendors.

Guests without base access should enter JBLM McChord Field through the North gate, located at South Tacoma Way and 112th Street South. Organizers are asking attendees to expect some delays due to security checks.

There are no weapons, alcohol, illegal drugs, fireworks, or pets allowed on the base.
