FIFE, Wash. – Interstate 5 reopened midday Thursday after an overturned gasoline tanker shut down the freeway in Fife and prompted evacuations of nearby buildings.

The crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. near 54th Avenue. Police evacuated buildings in a half-mile radius around the scene as a precaution while crews transferred an estimated 7,700 gallons of gasoline from the tanker.

WSDOT reopened the freeway just after 12:30 p.m.
