SEATTLE - A rare joint City-County Council committee meeting will focus on heroin and homelessness in the region.

Seattle Councilmember Sally Bagshaw and King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles convened the human services committee meeting to get an update on the fight against both issues, and also host a discussion of the investments in affordable housing.

A discussion over future funding ideas is also expected, with the Heroin and Prescription Opiate Addiction Task Force planning to release a series of recommendations in September. That may come with costly solutions to combat the growing heroin crisis, and Kohl-Welles says it's important to know how the city and county can pay for them.

"It's all very complicated, and we need to make sure we are on the same page," said Kohl-Welles. "I am for one am very confused at how all (of the funding) works. I hope it’s a very positive informational clarification."

The joint session is planned for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Seattle City Hall.
