Gold medal Olympians teaching kids to swim in Bellingham

Gold medalist and Bremerton native Nathan Adrian is just one of the Olympic swimmers helping kids learn how to swim at the Whatcom Family YMCA in Bellingham.

With the summer months ahead of us, learning to swim can be a lifesaving skill. That's why the USA Swimming Foundation is on its Make a Splash Tour.

The program puts Olympic gold medal athletes in the water with kids to help them learn to swim. The tour makes stops in Seattle on June 4. The tour also stopped in Washington D.C., with plans to stop in San Francisco and Orlando.

Gold medal swimmer and Bremerton native Nathan Adrian, along with gold medal athlete Rowdy Gaines, are making a stop at the Whatcom Family YMCA in Bellingham to host the event.

USA Swimming says lessons can reduce the likelihood of accidental childhood drowning by 88 percent.
