Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stopped in Seattle during his United States book tour for a signing and an hour-long conversation about a variety of topics, including the recent embassy move.
Barak made news recently for his position on President Trump's decisions to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal as well as move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"I think it should have happened 70 years ago," said the former prime minister. "Once the Palestinians come to grips with reality and strike a deal with us, and establish their own state, it would have a capital most likely in eastern Jerusalem."
Prime Minister Barak has been fighting for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestinians, but there's disagreement on where the border should be drawn. He's concerned about current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's direction, calling attention to Netanyahu's government policies.
"They are trying to push in a direction which will close the door on any potential disengagement and setting of two states," said Prime Minister Barak.
