Peace Arch at Washington-Canada border reopens after fatal crash

One person died in a fiery crash at the Peace Arch border crossing between Washington state and Canada.

The Peace Arch border crossing at the U.S-Canadian border is back open following a fatal crash. 

Northbound I-5 is also open at State Route 543. 

Officials say one person died in a fiery crash that closed the Peace Arch border crossing between Blaine, Washington and Surrey, British Columbia.

Officials closed the border crossing around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Peace Arch crossing remained closed for hours as authorities investigated.

Division Chief Henry Hollander of North Whatcom Fire and Rescue says the crash occurred on the Canadian side of the border.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported a van driver died after an SUV driver crashed into it at a high speed, causing the van to burst into flames. The SUV driver was hospitalized and expected to survive.
