Everett family rallies in DC for paid family leave, affordable child care

A rally in Washington D.C. aims to help working parents gain child care options through new legislation.

An Everett family was one of 50 families chosen from across the nation to represent Washington state in getting help for working parents.

Through its Strolling Thunder march, the nonprofit ZERO TO THREE is fighting for things like a comprehensive national paid leave program and quality, affordable child care that gives the youngest in America a strong start in life.

They're in Washington D.C. on Tuesday talking to local representatives about the changes they'd like to see.

Mary Cameron Perillo and her husband loaded up their youngest child and headed to D.C. on a red-eye flight to participate in the rally. She strapped on her diaper bag and armed her stroller with signs in an effort to spread the word about the lack of child care for children zero to three.

In Washington, both the state House and Senate have passed the Child Care Access Now Act (HB 1344) to help create more options for parents of children up to three years old. It's on the governor's desk waiting for approval.
