Arrest made in 10-year-old Everett cold case

Everett Major Crimes Unit detectives cracked an unsolved murder from 2007.

Everett Major Crimes Unit detectives have arrested a man in a case that went cold for 10 years.

23-year-old Jose Luis Martinez and his two friends went to the apartments at 900 W. Casino Road to purchase marijuana and cocaine on the night of June 27, 2007.

At the apartments Martinez and his two friends met up with another group of men to buy marijuana and cocaine. But, when one of the men took Martinez's money and did not provide the requisite drugs an argument ensued between the two groups.

As things escalated, one of the men in the other group pulled a gun and shot at Martinez and his friends. Martinez was fatally shot in the chest.

The Everett Major Crimes Unit investigated the shooting and pursued all leads but the case went cold for several years. Based on new tips, the case was reviewed in 2009, 2013, and 2015 which helped move the investigation forward.

But in 2017 new witnesses provided additional information on the suspect and circumstances surrounding the shooting, Major Crimes Unit detectives were then able to develop probable cause to identify and arrest a 34-year-old Everett man for murdering Martinez.

After an interview, the man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
