Thanksgiving travelers should expect longer-than-normal drive times on some routes throughout the holiday weekend, the Washington State Department of Transportation warns.
Traffic analysts used data from past Thanksgiving weekends to predict traffic conditions from Wednesday through Sunday.
Most state highway construction were suspended beginning noon Wednesday to help ease traffic, but popular routes– including I-5 from Bellingham to the Canadian Border, US 2 from Leavenworth through Stevens Pass, I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass and I-5 from Olympia to Tacoma – will still be congested.
Longer-than-normal wait times expected at ferry docks and Canadian border crossings through Sunday. WSDOT also expects backups in Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll lanes on Thanksgiving from 5 to 10 p.m.
If you don't see a particular day for one of these four routes, it means that WSDOT does not anticipate traffic volumes that are larger than normal.
