It’s here! Saturday marks the official start of boating season.

Along with all the fun and festivities, it’s also important to stay safe and use caution while on the water.

The opening day ceremonies started at 8 a.m. when the official parade boats started to assemble in Seattle’s Portage Bay, with the parade kicking off at noon.

Spectators are expected to line the shores of Portage Bay and Montlake Cut to watch as boats parade past, continuing a tradition that started in 1920.

Opening day is a family affair with festivities and events lasting all day.

Officials urge people to wear life-jackets, check the weather, and always have two forms of communication anytime they are on the water.
