2 people injured in shooting in Seattle’s Pioneer Square

Two people were injured in a shooting near 3rd and Yesler in Seattle's Pioneer Square Tuesday night.

SEATTLE — Two people were injured in a shooting in Seattle’s Pioneer Square Tuesday night. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, although one of the victims was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

The shooting was reported just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at 3rd and Yesler near the Pioneer Square light rail station.

Seattle police said an 18-year-old man was shot in the hand and calf. He was treated at the scene and transported to Harborview.

Police said a 64-year-old man told officers at the scene he may have been struck by shrapnel. He was examined at the scene by medics, but did not require additional treatment, police said.

Police detained someone nearby, but that person was questioned and released. There is no one else in custody at this time. A handgun, shell casings, and narcotics were located near 3rd and Yesler.  

Police have not said what led up to the shooting or if the suspect and victims knew each other.
