Suspect taken to hospital after Kent officer-involved shooting

A man was taken to the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Kent on Thursday. No officers were hurt.

KENT, Wash. — A man who was sought by police for felony warrants was injured in an officer-involved shooting in Kent on Thursday.

Kent police detectives were investigating the man, who has warrants for drug crimes, when they found him in the 14900 block of Kent-Kangley Road, according to Jarod Kasner, assistant Kent police chief.

The man, who is in his 30s and is known to the police, resisted arrest and tried to flee the scene.

One Kent detective fired his weapon and hit the suspect, according to Kasner.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The suspect was taken to the hospital after the incident and is in custody. His condition is not known.

Roads in the area are closed while police investigate and gather evidence. Kasner said there are two crime scenes, but it’s unclear how they are connected.

“A lot of the details are still coming in and unknown,” Kasner said.

The Valley Investigation Team will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.
