Police looking for driver who hit 10-year-old on a scooter in Pierce County

The 10-year-old suffered multiple broken bones, according to Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department needs help finding the driver of an SUV that hit a 10-year-old girl Saturday night.

The department tweeted Sunday that the girl was riding a scooter along 113th Street S. in Parkland when the vehicle hit her and took off.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black SUV, possibly a Nissan Pathfinder. Witnesses said the vehicle had front end damage.

Amber McCall was around the corner and heard the crash.

"The mom was in panic. The little girl was on the ground and her shirt was kind of halfway up and she had road rash all over and rocks up her nose. She was awake and conscious but it was still a very scary situation," McCall said.

Pierce County Sheriff deputies said girl went to the hospital with a broken femur, pelvis, and shoulder. Deputy Gary Sanders said the driver was speeding through a 25 mile per hour area.

"It's a residential area. It's where kids are going to be playing riding their bikes. It's what kids should be able to do without fear of being struck by a vehicle," Sanders said.

Neighbors are upset by what happened.

"Honestly I don't know what kind of human being could hit a child and be okay and actually live with themselves,” said McCall.

Anyone with information about the incident or suspect vehicle should contact authorities at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). A $1,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and charges against the suspect.
