Man arrested on $1M bond in the shooting death of 23-year-old from Silsbee

Investigators found 23-year-old K’drian Wells dead in the 700 block of East Avenue H with a gunshot wound.

SILSBEE, Texas — Investigators have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 23-year-old man that happened Thursday afternoon, according to the Silsbee Police Department.

Michael Ray Lewis Jr., of Silsbee, was booked into the Hardin County jail for charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. 

Justice of the Peace Charles Brewer has set a bond of $1,000,000 for the murder charge and $200,000 for the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Investigators found 23-year-old K’drian Wells dead in the 700 block of East Avenue H with a gunshot wound. Silsbee Police Chief Shawn Blackwell said the call came in around noon Thursday. Blackwell said it's not clear who called police. 

The Hardin County District Attorney's Office, Jefferson County Crime Unit and Silsbee Police Department were all at the scene. 

Crime scene tape was placed by police near E Avenue H and Kirby Street.

From a Silsbee Police Department news release 10/23/2020:

On Thursday, October 22, 2020, at approximately 11:56 AM, Silsbee
Police responded to the 700 block of East Avenue H, Silsbee, in reference
to the report that a man that had been shot. The victim, a 23 year old male,
K’drian Wells, from Silsbee, was pronounced deceased at the scene by
Justice of the Peace Melissa Minton. A suspect was detained at the scene
for questioning, by Silsbee Police. An investigation was completed by
Silsbee Police with assistance from the Hardin County District Attorney’s
Office and the Jefferson County Crime Lab.


Michael Ray Lewis Jr., 41, of Silsbee, was arrested for the shooting
death of K’drian Wells. Michael Ray Lewis Jr. was booked into, and is
being held at the Hardin County Jail for the charges of Murder and
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Justice of the Peace Charles
Brewer has set a bond of $1,000,000 for the charge of Murder and
$200,000 for the charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

A suspect has been detained, and is in police custody, for questioning. The Jefferson County Crime Lab and the Hardin County District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation.
