SPOKANE, Wash. — A new list of Jesuit priests who were accused or convicted of the sexual abuse of children was released Friday by the Jesuits West Province, including some priests who worked or lived in the Seattle area.

The list includes priests who served in Arizona, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. These men worked at Catholic schools, churches and universities. Most of the new names on the list were priests who served in California.

Some of the men named on the list have been removed from their positions due to credible claims, died before the claims were made or had been convicted for sex crimes.

Many of these names were released previously. Jesuit West leaders said in many cases they said they were not informed of the claims and did not have the opportunity to do their own independent review of the claims.

The Jesuits West Province was formed when the former California and Oregon Provinces became one after bankruptcy.

The Jesuits West Province encourages anyone who has felt victimized by a priest in this region to contact both Mary Pat Panighetti, Advocacy Coordinator for Jesuits West, at 408-893-8398, and appropriate law enforcement and child-protective agencies.
