Good Samaritan attacked with machete in Burien

Two men were hospitalized Wednesday after two men wielding a machete attacked them. King County Sgt. Ryan Abbott says the attack appears to be random.

The fight started a few minutes after 7 p.m. Wednesday near the Union 76 gas station at the corner of 1st Avenue South and SW 148th Street.

Abbott says two intoxicated men, ages 25 and 30, exited a restaurant and attacked a transient man, pushing his belongings into the street. A 39-year-old Good Samaritan witnessed the attack and tried to intervene.

The two suspects turned their attack on the Good Samaritan, striking him with a machete and chain. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to Sgt. Abbott, a couple of cooks from the restaurant ran outside and chased down one of the suspects, pinning him down until officers arrived and took him into custody. Officers located and arrested the second suspect as well.

The transient man was transported to a nearby hospital. Abbott did not have his condition Wednesday evening.

Both suspects were taken to King County Jail, where they await official charges.
