Driver arrested in US 101 hit-and-run that critically injured boy

The driver suspected of a striking a 11-year-old-boy Sunday and fleeing the scene turned himself into detectives on Wednesday.

The driver suspected of hitting a 11-year-old boy off U.S. 101 earlier this week has been arrested. Washington State Patrol said Irven Jacobs called detectives from Yelm Wednesday afternoon to turn himself in.

Detectives book the suspect into jail and he will be charged with felony hit-and-run, according to WSP.

Isaiah Bermeno, who is autistic, wandered away from his home and was struck near Oyster Bay Road on Sunday about 5:30 p.m. Witnesses told police he was struck by a silver or cream minivan.

Bermeno was airlifted to Harborview. He passed away Wednesday morning.

"His life was taken away too soon and we will miss him sorely," his parents wrote in a statement released Thursday.

Detectives found the suspect vehicle Monday in Shelton about 10 miles from where Bermeno was hit.
