Grays Harbor County sheriff's deputies are warning residents about a ransom scam in which the caller claims to have kidnapped the child of the person they are calling.

The sheriff's office say Andy Stone, a Central Park resident, received a call Wednesday in which he heard a young girl crying and saying "daddy, daddy" several times.

"It was a crying little girl that sounded like my 6-year-old, and I thought somebody kidnapped her. I didn't know," Stone said.

Then a man jumped on the line, identified Stone by name and said "I have your daughter. If you want her... " before the call disconnected.

Stone called Central Park School and confirmed his daughter was there and safe.

"My daughter was safe and all of that, but at the time, I didn't know what was going on," Stone said.

The call was from phone number +52 6563227320. The sheriff's office said the number appears to be from Mexico. It was no longer in service when deputies tried to call it.

The sheriff's office says there were similar calls made in Aberdeen and Thurston. In some cases, the suspect identified himself as "Batman" and demanded ransom.
