Annoyed fans slam 'Game of Thrones' with airplane banner over Seattle

A group of frustrated 'Game of Thrones' fans raised money to criticize the final season with an airplane banner over Seattle.

SEATTLE — Frustration over the Game of Thrones series finale reached new heights when a group of fans aired their grievances with an airplane banner over Seattle.

A small plane towed a sign that read, "SOMEONE REWRITE GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 PLZ."

The clear banner with red lettering soared over downtown Seattle on Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Geddes and his friends came up with the idea and created an online fundraiser on May 16. He said it started as a “dumb joke,” but he quickly realized he was committed.

"A couple donations rolled in, then 50, then 100," said Geddes, who set a goal of raising $695 for about 30 minutes of airtime over Seattle. “I very clearly accidentally struck a nerve with a very aggrieved fan base. I think I severely underestimated how annoyed people are with this show.”

Irritated Game of Thrones viewers complained all season about the plot, the writing, and the way the series ended on Sunday.

“It was like any average B-list Hollywood movie,” Geddes said. "It was fine, it just wasn’t as good as the first seasons."

Geddes said he mostly organized the banner stunt for his own personal amusement, though he hopes some donors will also consider giving to actress Emilia Clarke’s charity for stroke and brain injury survivors: sameyou.org.

But nearly $700 just to complain about a TV show?

“Could this money have been better spent? Absolutely,” Geddes said.
