IRS stimulus check tool now receiving direct deposit information

Are you still waiting for your stimulus check? The IRS urges you to log into the Get My Payment tool again and check its status.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said Sunday it made enhancements to the “Get My Payment” tool to allow people to receive stimulus checks faster.

One of the enhancements includes the ability to receive direct deposit information, which allows people to give the IRS their bank account information and receive their checks weeks or months sooner than if they were mailed a paper check.

“We encourage people to check back in and visit Get My Payment. These enhancements will help many taxpayers," IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a statement.

The IRS said Sunday that if you've successfully entered your banking info by any given Tuesday, you should get your payment by the following Saturday. Social Security, survivor and disability non-filers will see their payments in the bank no later than May 5, according to a Treasury spokeswoman. Veterans benefit recipients are also slated for early May.

The IRS also plans to roll out a Spanish version of the “Get My Payment” tool in a few weeks.

The payments are part of the $2.2 trillion rescue package signed into law by President Donald Trump aimed at combating the economic ravages of the coronavirus pandemic.

For the most part, the government is sending eligible Americans a $1,200 economic impact payment, plus an additional $500 per child.
