Vacation and see the world without sacrificing your fitness routine on a wellness cruise

Wellness is a lifestyle. You don't have to put aside your healthy routine when you vacation with AMA Waterways and AAA Travel.

Seattle — Having a relaxing and fun vacation shouldn't mean having to forego your personal health and fitness goals. AMA Waterways and AAA Travel have joined forces to bring a new type of vacation that embellishes the cruise experience by providing amenities that fit your health-conscious lifestyle. Some of the additions include state-of-the-art fitness centers, a fleet of bicycles for use when the ship is in port, hiking tours, and organized fitness classes onboard the ship.

"AMA Waterways is your premier luxury river cruise line," said Jazzmine Douse, AMA Waterways' business development manager. "We have decided to incorporate some new amenities onboard, and that's because there's a new focus on health and wellness. We want to focus on maintaining that and providing those opportunities for people to experience that while they're on vacation."

Douse also notes that another change the cruise line has made is incorporating locally-sourced, quality ingredients into the meals prepared for guests.

AAA Travel has a Wellness Cruise coming up in November 2019 that features local wellness coach and fitness expert Kim Larson.

"We're going to be going from Vilshofen to Budapest," said Liz Day of AAA Travel. "Kim is going to be talking about wellness, the Mediterranean diet, and anti-aging."

According to Liz, the river cruise experience differs from the conventional cruise experience in several ways.

"It's intimate, you get to know your guests a little bit better, the food--I think--is better sourced, because it's local, and the cruise manager manages you from beginning to end so you feel like you're never alone and you know exactly what you're doing every day."

Liz and Jazzmine both agreed that the wellness cruises are meeting a demand for many guests.

"We're realizing that wellness is starting to become a lifestyle," said Douse. "When you're on vacation, you don't want to have to take a break from your lifestyle. You want to be able to maintain that."

As for the classes that are offered on the cruises, Douse said there's quite a selection.

"We have morning stretching, some morning walks and hiking classes--one of my favorites is the champagne yoga class. It's about being fun and engaging while still kind of getting the heart rate pumping and getting the blood flowing. It's a great way to start the day."

Book by Dec. 31, 2018 and save $1,000 per person on cruise fare! A 7 night river cruise is between $3,199 and $2,199 per person. To book, call Liz Day from AAA at 844-549-0876 or email her at lizday@aaawa.com.
