SEATTLE — The Northside Step team has been making waves with their powerful step performances that aren't afraid to address social inequalities. In 2017 the team won a step competition with a piece that told the story of African Americans, starting in Africa and ending with the Black Lives Matter movement. Through their performances, they spread messages about hope and community while teaching members about leadership and discipline. Director of the Northside Youth Program Darnesha Weary and the North Side Step Team join New Day Northwest to show us their moves and talk about their mission.
The team also danced in a music video with pop sensation Lizzo for her song "Healing" as a part of Girls Who Code's visual album Sisterhood.
