SheFighter is the first self-defense studio for women in the Middle East

In an effort to help end violence to women around the world, founder Lina Khalifeh empowers women to defend themselves mentally and physiologically from different violent situations.

Lina Khalifeh excelled at Taekwondo from a young age, which became an important positive influence in her life. She came to the realization that other women could benefit from the empowerment Taekwondo gave her. After teaching self-defense to a handful of women in her parents' basement, she opened her first SheFighter studio in Jordan in 2012.

There are currently SheFighter studios in Palestine, South Korea, Mauritius Island, Holland, Portugal, Germany, with hopes to open her first studio in the U.S. later this year.

Khalifeh will be at Vital Voices Northwest Council Celebration of International Women's Day on Saturday, March 9, at The Riveter, 1517 12th Ave, Suite 101, Seattle starting at 10 am. There will be a breakfast, a talk with Valerie Biden Owens and Khalifeh will do a SheFighter demonstration. Tickets cost $25.
