Seattle — Journalist Jennifer Haupt visited Rwanda, twelve years following the genocides that decimated the African nation. That life-changing trip inspired her debut novel, In the Shadow of Ten Thousand Hills.

The novel follows three women from vastly different backgrounds on a similar quest, looking for peace among the chaos and turbulence in the aftermath of the genocides.

Jennifer Haupt joins New Day Northwest to discuss the inspiration behind the book, her own family history with genocide, and her deep connection to the women she met in Rwanda.
