SEATTLE — The college admissions scandal rocked the nation when it was revealed officials at top universities were accepting bribes to admit unqualified students. So far over 50 people have been charged in the scam including CEOS, and actors Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman. The scandal caused many to wonder about how fair the college admissions process is overall, with many schools still accepting large gifts and legacy students.

How are students without those kinds of financial resources supposed to get into college, and what's the competition really like? Mark Hofer is a certified college advisor in Washington with experience in every step of the process. Hofer specializes in finding the school to match the student, not just pushing every teen to apply to an ivy league.

Hofer joins New Day Northwest to talk about the scandal affects deserving students, what the admissions process is really like, and how to help the teens in your life get into the school that's right for them. He also shared how early a student and his/her family should begin preparing for the college application process.
