Artist Patricia Ruff, owner of Rocky Bay Garden Creations in Gig Harbor, loves creating works of art out of something the rest of us in the Pacific Northwest are usually trying to rid our houses and yards of.

Moss is Patricia's medium of choice. She travels the state gathering different kinds of moss to create wall panels and arrangements that add a touch of nature to any space yet don't require any maintenance. Her work also includes hypertufa plant containers, used for plants like succulents or bonsai, and string gardens that allow plants to grow out of balls of moss. Today, she's demonstrating how to create a moss tray that is simple yet perfect for adding a conversation piece to your patio.
