A cookbook that's perfect for any novice in the kitchen

Charles Liotta, co-author of The Nice Guy's Guide to Cooking for a Lady, joins New Day to show us how to make a few recipes from his book!

Seattle — Are you a guy who wants to learn how to cook but don't know where to start? If so, then Charles Liotta and Christy Beaver's cookbook, The Nice Guy’s Guide to Cooking for a Lady, is just the book for you. This book features easy-to-follow recipes wth lots of photos.

Today, Charles shows us how to make a few of his dishes from the book, while Christy shared more about the book's inception and their unique approach to the finished cookbook, which includes recipes, notes, and step-by-step photos.

Here are the recipes for the dishes Charles shared:

You Go, Gurt (makes 2 servings)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups plain yogurt
  • 1 cup fancy granola
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of berries

Directions:

  1. In two 6" serving bowls, place 1 cup of yogurt each
  2. Sprinkle 1/2 cup granola over each bowl
  3. Slice half banana into 1/4" rounds over each bowl
  4. Pour 1/2 cup of berries evenly over both parfaits
  5. All that's left is for *someone* to kiss the cook

If You Want To Destroy Bruschetta

Ingredients:

  • 1 24" baguette
  • 3 Roma or heirloom tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp fresh basil
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 8 oz ball mozzarella
  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sharp serrated knife

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. Slice bread into 1/4" thick rounds with serrated knife and place on baking sheet
  3. Coat each piece with a little olive oil
  4. Flip slices over, oil side down
  5. Toast in the oven for 5 minutes
  6. Rinse tomato, chop into 1/4" cubes
  7. Mince garlic into smallest reasonable pieces
  8. Rinse basil, remove and discard stems, chop
  9. Combine tomatoes, basil, olive oil, oregano, garlic, and lemon juice in a 9" bowl and stir
  10. Slice mozzarella into 1/2" slices
  11. Cover each piece of bread with mozzarella
  12. With a fork, pick up some tomato mixture and put on each slice, leaving juice in bowl
  13. Top bread and cheese base with tomato mixture
  14. Sprinkle each bruschetta with salt and pepper
  15. Toast compiled bruschetta for 10 additional minutes
  16. All that's left is for someone to *kiss* the cook

Carmen Miranda Rights Fruit Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 orange
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pear
  • 2 kiwis
  • 2 Tbsp fresh basil
  • 1 cup cashews

Directions:

  1. Rinse each fruit and remove the peel (optional to peel apple and pear)
  2. Remove the seeds and cores from all but the kiwis
  3. Chop all fruit into 1/2" cubes
  4. Wash basil, remove stems, and chop tiny
  5. Chop or crush cashews into 1/4" pieces
  6. Combine all above items in a large serving bowl
  7. Stir to cover all bits well with citrus juices
  8. All that's left is for *someone* to kiss the cook
