REDMOND, Wash. — Across from a driving school, next to a nail salon in a Redmond strip mall is a place the queen feels right at home. Step inside and suddenly you're in England.
The British Pantry Ltd. offers all things British, from its store, restaurant, and pub.
Mavis Redman opened the place in 1978 that offers high tea, crumpets, meat pies, tarts and all sorts of British-themed cookies, candy, and souvenirs.
"I just missed the food. So I decided to open The British Pantry 38 years ago," said Redman.
The pantry is a restaurant, store and pub side by side by side.
Redman named the restaurant Neville's, after her son. They serve everything from Beef Wellington to Yorkshire pudding to old world fish and chips.
Her grandfather was a baker near Manchester...now her grandson bakes most of the tarts, fruitcakes and meat pies.
"We're more traditional here than they are in England anymore," said Redman.
The Three Lions Pub has also become a popular gathering spot for soccer fans.
You're guaranteed to feel English as soon as you step in the door.
