NEW YORK — It's an earthshaking night of season finales from NBC's Chicago Wednesday lineup.
"Three communities that deal with each other in real life on television on the same night," says S. Epatha Merkerson, the actress who plays Dr. Sharon Goodwin on "Chicago Med."
First up in the Wednesday night schedule at 8:00 PM, prepare for big surprises on the hospital drama.
"Basically some really good things and really bad things," says star Oliver Platt.
The show closes out the season as it began: With unflinching authenticity, right down to a cast that lives and works in the real Chicago.
"I'll see a nurse getting her nails done and I'll be like, 'Huh? 'Scuse me, can I ask you something? I thought we couldn't wear this kind of polish,' says Chicago Med star Yaya DaCosta. "All those different kind of details."
Stay right where you are as sparks fly at 9:00 PM on the "Chicago Fire" season finale.
"When all of these characters that you've fallen in love with run into this building, who might not come back out?" says "Chicago Fire's" Eamonn Walker.
Is the show saying goodbye to a major character?
"Somebody's not coming back out," Walker confirms.
Walker says he's proud to represent the first responders who risk their lives every day.
"That work is done in the dark. Nobody sees that. And Chicago Fire helps shine a light on what they do, so I'm very very happy to do that."
The evening of season-enders wraps up at 10:00 PM with a "Chicago PD" shocker.
"It's pretty crazy," LaRoyce Hawkins of "PD" says.
"It's our best episode yet," adds co-star Jesse Lee Soffer. "The stakes are the highest. There's so much going on. The unit's falling apart. People are going to jail."
Settle in for a night of the unexpected from this trio of Chicago-based shows.
"You sit down to be entertained; you get up educated," says Merkerson. "That's television at its best."
