BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Boogie Bounce is a workout for anybody, with any body, at any age.
A 45-minute cardio class solely on trampolines was inspired by a Fitness Expo in Los Angeles.
"We saw this crazy girl on one of these apparatus doing these moves," said Dar Whitworth, a Boogie Bounce instructor. "And they just had this huge smile on their face, I thought, that's it."
Whitworth and Alicia Kennemer, Owner of Love to Move Studioz, were some of the first people in America to be certified in this routine, which originated in the U.K..
"We have people with all sorts of issues," said Kennemer. "But when they get on the bouncer, it equalizes everybody, which is amazing."
Laura Nichols makes the half-hour drive just to bounce in Bellingham.
"I loved it instantly," said Nichols. "It's exactly like being a kid again, bouncin' around. I bounce around with my grand-kids on the trampoline, but this way I really get a workout."
Complete with punching, fancy footwork, and even chicken dancing, the head-to-toe exercises are all performed while bouncing.
"If you're having fun, you're gonna keep doing it," said Kennemer. "You're gonna come back."
Boogie Bounce devotees cite a NASA study calling bouncing "the most effective exercise ever for returning astronauts," and in this case, for people on earth.
For those that have taken the class, they know Boogie Bounce is definitely out of this world.
