Seattle celebrates International Pillow Fight day with costumes, smiles, and naps

The event is hosted locally by Seattle Deviants, a nonprofit group on a mission to thaw the Seattle Freeze.

SEATTLE, Wash. — Even though the weather was gloomy on Saturday, a group of brave Seattleites celebrated International Pillow Fight Day with smiles on their faces.

The event, which in the past has drawn hundreds to Capitol Hill's Cal Anderson Park, is hosted by Seattle Deviants. It's a nonprofit that puts on several fun events like this throughout the year with a goal of melting the Seattle Freeze.

"It takes the monotony out of life every once in a while to do something for fun, and not for money," said founder Gus Catalano. "And, it's something everyone can participate in. It's actually a really nice way for people who are new to Seattle to meet other people."

After several rounds of fighting, participants found the best way to recover was by resting their heads on their pillows.

"It's so Northwest of us to have a great battle, then all take a nap together," joked participant Craig Downing.
