Seattle streets filled with lemons to celebrate Girl Scout Cookie season

The Girl Scouts stage a parade to celebrate this season's new cookie flavor.

SEATTLE — The newest Girl Scout Cookie flavor, 'Lemon-Up,' is here. And downtown Seattle couldn't miss their arrival, thanks to an afternoon parade that winded its way from Westlake Park to Pike Place Market.

"I was able to sample these lemon cookies and they're absolutely delicious," says Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, the ceremonial grand marshal.

Tom Douglas Restaurants pastry chef Brittany Bardeleben agrees. "They're light and perky," she says.

Trophy Cupcakes CEO Jennifer Shea, the parade's "Lemon Queen," describes the flavor: "Lemony, shortbread, crumbly, buttery."

But it was the scouts themselves in the spotlight.

"I was a Brownie and I fondly remember those days of connecting with other young women, and learning about myself," says Chief of Police Carmen Best.

Public sales of Girl Scout Cookies in Western Washington are currently underway.
