MUKILTEO, Wash. — A former professional and member of the Canadian National badminton team, Derek Ng attempted to teach Team Evening the basics at Harbour Pointe Badminton Club. On his level, badminton is no backyard barbecue sport, not when a shuttlecock is coming at you at more than 200 mph.
“Badminton is actually a very dynamic sport,” says Ng. “You need to be able to run, jump, sprint back and forth, and have good eye-to-hand coordination.”
That pretty much ruled out everyone at Team Evening. Badminton is the second most popular sport in the world. It is also the only Olympic sport that features women and men playing against each other on the same court at the same time.
