If you've driven down 45th Street in Wallingford, you've probably seen the store. Well, both stores.
The original Bedrooms & More opened in 1972 at the corner of NE 45th Street and Latona Avenue. Recently, they opened a new location- just 100 feet away, right down 45th Street.
"It's been a very eventful 46 years," co-owner Jeff Garfield says. "We've had a good time."
Jeff runs the business with his wife, Wanda Garfield- but they aren't alone. Bedrooms & More is a family effort. Their three sons would do odd-jobs around the store as kids, and the business stuck with them. Now, they're employees as well.
The Garfields started by selling waterbeds. That's changed, of course. Their new store is a bedding and furniture paradise. They sell a wide range of mattresses, bed-frames, furniture and accessories for the home. The crown jewel is their own brand, 45th Street Bedding.
Bedrooms & More is known in particular for selling two-sided and botanical mattresses- 45th Street Bedding falls into that category. Two-sided mattresses last longer than one-sided, while botanical mattresses are better for the environment and good for people with allergies.
Blake Garfield, one of Jeff and Wanda's sons who now works as General Manager, says that people come from out of state to buy their mattresses.
Even though there's a new building, the original Bedrooms & More is still open. They sell a wide range of seating and furniture in the original building. If you're looking for a type of chair, chances are you'll find it at Bedrooms & More's original location.
46 years of Bedrooms & More- so what's the secret behind their success?
"If there's a word for what we do, it's that we're responsible," Jeff Garfield says. "We care about our consumers, we care about what we sell."
