It only stretches four blocks along Rainier Avenue, but Seattle's Hillman City neighborhood is packed with with flavorful restaurants, cafes and bars.
One spot you can't miss is Big Chickie, a modern roadside chicken shack. Its specialty is Peruvian style charcoal rotisserie chicken or pollo a la brasa. It's prepared fresh every day and served with homemade sides, salads and sauces.
The fast causal restaurant opened in 2014 at the long vacant Rudy's service station and has become a gathering spot for the community. Events are held throughout the year including live jazz on Wednesday nights with musicians from Hillman City's Jazz Night School.
Many of Big Chickie's employees also call Hillman City home. Owner Matt Stubbs loves the area and is proud to support his neighbors.
